“I’ve been working with Frankie for about five months and it’s hard to express how grateful I am for her wisdom, compassion, and guidance as I find my own best balance with food and body image. Frankie calls herself a Nutritional Therapist, and I didn’t really know what that meant, so at first I was hesitant to see her because I assumed she was a nutritionist, and everyone I’ve ever known who saw a nutritionist ended up being told what not to eat.
I was seeking to repair my relationship with food – to embrace the beauty of all that food can offer in my life without feeling controlled by cravings and wracked by guilt when I ate what I felt were “bad” foods. When I first spoke with Frankie on the phone and expressed my concerns, she explained that she likes to take an approach of “crowding in” rather than leaving out. I like to call Frankie my nourishment guru because my work with her has helped me understand all the layers of what it means to be nourished and how food is just one of those layers–but it interweaves with everything else. As I learn how to embrace that food is a deep source of nourishment and not just a path filled with guilt-laden sugary choices or feel-good green salads, it opens me to bringing in all the other sources of nourishment I need. In fact, much of my work with Frankie has been focused on how to build these other avenues of nourishment in my life.
Frankie is an exceptionally good listener and brings immense intuition to knowing which questions to ask next and what I most need to help me keep moving forward. I’ve come to a place where I no longer experience cravings, which I truly thought was not a possibility when I started this journey. I no longer see food as being divided into “good foods” and “bad foods.” I keep learning what it means to nourish myself and as I become better at that, I find that everything in my life becomes more satisfying and less stressful.
